Annual Dues:

Increases have been debated in the past
Coverage:
Fee to BSA/Boys Life Magazine
8-9 Campouts/Food/Supplies/Campsites
Fees/Badges/
Raise of dues by $10 to help cushion for repairs, needed equipment is being proposed, with nominal discount for families with multiple children -- accepted. Dues will be raised by $10 to $160
Improving of fundraisers:
Spreading word more actively to buy sponsorship, attend Pancake Breakfast/buy Christmas tree, sell ads for Council Fire,
Advancement: How does it work to keep up with it/Gail overseeing advancements --
Elizabeth donated two laptops to the troop
The new program will be Troopmaster. All rank advancements will have to be entered into the database, which again will be uploaded into Scoutnet – in the long run this will/should make tracing the advancements easier. This development related to BSA minimizing paper and working more online
For Committee Members: The application and renewal of applications will now only be accepted after completing the ‘Youth Protection Training Program’ online
At this point only a few parents of the troop are registered members with the BSA
Board of Reviews:
3 parent volunteers will be needed for each BoR towards Tenderfoot and Second Class
4 parent volunteers will be needed for each BoR towards First Class and higher rank advancements
2 questions Gail will always ask:
- one first aid related question
- one question related to requirements for rank advancement
Please respond quickly when you see Gail’s requests for volunteers for BoR. Keep in mind that your son will depend on volunteers for his advancements, too.
The question of opening a Facebook page for Alumnis was discussed
The page would be private and Alumnis could join via application or invitation.
One way to spread the word on this would be with an announcement on the troop’s website, e.g. “Follow us on Facebook.”
Michele Bond, the new ambassador to Lesotho has offered the possibility for the troop to experience a high adventure or/and service project in Lesotho, preferably during the summer break of either 2011 or 2012. Don will send a survey in regards to this trip to Africa. Requirements for this trip will be: 14 years of age & 1st class.
The survey will determine the general interest in this trip, how much money are people willing to spend and what would be a good time. The next meeting should bring survey results to determine if such a trip is even possible. Would side trips after such a trip be possible? Minimum cost for this trip would around $5000. Pat Donolly could be a source, since he and his wife spent a lot of time in Africa and recently adopted two boys from Etheopia. Jill Cassasola could be an information and help source as well.
Last camping trip was to Winter Camp Site, Marsha’s Farm:
Accident occurred: Alex Ray tripped on rock and fell
His leg was injured, he was in serious pain, but was fortunately no fracture.
2 scouts got to apply the seat carry from accident point to campsite while Alex was a trooper holding up with the pain. The leg got splinted with neckerchiefs. 2 poles and a nylon tarp were used to carry scout on backboard. The scouts carried him out of the campsite to a waiting ambulance.
The only good outcome out of this accident was that the scouts got to apply their learned first aid in a real life experience – 1st aid in a rugged area
The boys that were left behind while Alex was carried to the ambulance stepped up to the plate and boys without leadership function took over and lead the remaining troop.
Report about Bullying:
There have been reports about older boys bullying the younger boys. This has been going on for a while and needs to be addressed.
PLC has been addressed and an outside speaker will be invited
The latest Scouting Magazine for parents (registered with BSA) featured an article on bullying
Some of the bullying is a result out of frustration, but still not acceptable
Troop policy is that nobody is supposed to feel bad. If you know about bullying please report it to the Scoutmaster immediately.
Questions regarding bulling will be included in the BoR.
Camporee:
Payments will be requested, $12
Bag lunch for Friday will be needed
Pancake Breakfast:
Set up will be Friday night
Arrival at 6:00 am, Saturday
Serving will begin at 8:00 am
Everyone is expected to help at some point.
The troop has two new scout applications and one drop out to report. The scout dropping out switched to Troop 61 due to ‘no cell phone’ policy.
At this point the troop is at largest since John Le Mon has been involved. The last time the troop had 4 patrols was in the 70s.
